You can scour the internet and find a thousand bloggers posting DIY chalk paint recipes. There’s recipes ranging from baking soda to grout. From plaster of paris to calcium carbonate. After researching these recipes myself, I found the plaster of paris recipe was the easiest to whip up, with little investment and has great chalky coverage. Since chalk is made up of calcium carbonate, I’m sure it would be the leading winner for coverage. However, it’s not easy to find. And that is simply why it didn’t come in first for me.

Using this container, found at any home improvement or hardware store, makes measuring easy breezy.
I also recommend mixing the water and Plaster of Paris before adding the paint. I made the mistake of adding the paint to the plaster of paris first, and it was way harder to get the right consistency.
